Last Minute Gift Ideas at A Sophisticated Pair

Hello Everyone,

If you’re anything like me, the early release of Christmas decorations belied how quickly the season would be upon us, and I am by no means proud to say that I have yet to purchase a single gift.  My Christmas tree is a barren wasteland of tree skirt and dog hair this year, although if I am being honest, no presents go under the tree until Christmas morning anyway on account of my cat’s affinity for eating ribbon.  Fortunately, my family is more low key with gift giving, but I admit to feeling the first stages of holiday panic and have resolved to pick up what I need before Monday.  In my case, long hours working retail make me cranky about fighting crowds after a tough day or on weekends, and I try, if possible, to support local businesses when buying gifts—local businesses I might add which run almost identical hours to the shop.  Thank goodness for last minute gift ideas, which is my way of segueing to our blog topic. For my procrastinating brothers and sisters, I compiled a list of items you can purchase directly from our shop this season.  Did I mention that we also offer gift wrapping for the nominal fee of $5 and that all items wrapped receive a 5% discount?  Oh, and we also sell gift certificates if you’re not sure what to buy. Hear that? It’s the sound of those excuses evaporating into the tinsel and poinsettias.

Parfait Charlotte Set – $52

Sizes 28-40D-K, Available in Select Sizes in Store
Sizes 28-40D-K, Available in Select Sizes in Store

Contrasting black piping pops on all of the colorways for Charlotte while the wide wings and rounded cup shape make the bra a favorite for comfort and fit.  Red may be the most seasonally-appropriate of the colors, but my personal pick goes to the new ice blue which released a month early.

Affinitas Sasha – $49

Sasha_Red

Sizes Small to X-Large
Sizes Small to X-Large

With a lace-up ribbon back and slinky satin fabric, Sasha epitomizes holiday lingerie, particularly in the gorgeous deep red colorway.  It’s sexy, festive, and flattering.  Detachable garter straps give you the option of wearing stockings too, but with an underwire, the design is friendlier for smaller to average busts.

Kix’ies Stockings – $22

Kix'ies Back Seam Stockings in the C/D size range.
Kix’ies Back Seam Stockings in the C/D size range.

Kix’ies were the first stocking to restore my battered faith in holdups, and they make for a lovely stocking stuffer (yeah, I went there). With multilevel silicone gel at the top and a wide band, Kix’ies never dig into sensitive skin or fall while moving.  For more information, check out my review

Rago 721 Waist Cincher – $47

721 - Review Coming Soon
721 – Review Coming Soon

Perfect for the person who wants a vintage-inspired waist cincher or who like traditional stockings with garters, the Rago 721 uses stretchy black fabric and flexible boning to provide shape while high quality metal garter snaps keep stockings in place.

Parfait Louisa Wire Bra Set – $79

Louisa
Sizes 30-40D-K, Select Sizes Available in Store

Featuring red poppy flowers on a crisp white base, the Louisa offers a great fit with its three section cut-and-sew design, and the adorable matching hipster with stretch lace leg are flattering across body shapes.

Panache Sports Bra – $68

panache-underwire-sports-bra-134

While not a traditionally sexy gift, the Panache Sports bra with its encapsulated underwire and superb hold still makes for an excellent gift!

iCollection 7278 Victorian Corset – $60

7278X-BLAC-F

iCollection has continued to impress me with the quality of their corsets. It’s easy for inexpensive, mass-produced corsets to not only look a bit cheap and tacky but also to fail at providing hold and shaping. iCollection completely misses these pitfalls to produce an ornately designed lingerie piece with sturdy boning to cinch the waist. The designs even support well enough for strapless dresses, and the gorgeous details make them easy to transition to outerwear too.

Affinitas Lara – $56

Sizes Small to Extra-Large
Sizes Small to Extra-Large

Far too often, lingerie becomes the piece you wear for a short amount of time and not what you wear for sleep or lounging, but I love how the Lara manages to work for both situations. The soft lace on the cup is moderately sheer while the leopard print bottom drapes softly (and more importantly comfortably) down the body. Since there isn’t an underwire, don’t expect miracles if you have a fuller-bust, but I will say I tried an XL and was pleasantly surprised by the way it looked.

Anna Pardal Emmeline or Stiff Cappuccino – $62

The latest (and greatest in my opinion) variation of Stiff Cappuccino
The latest (and greatest in my opinion) variation of Stiff Cappuccino

Specializing in sophisticated, elegant designs, both the Anna Pardal Emmeline and Stiff Cappuccino utilize a luxurious neutral palette to offer the versatility of a black or beige bra without even a hint of boring!

Yummie Tummie Stephanie Tanks – $34 each, 2 for $58

Sizes S/M to 2XL/3XL, Available in Sky, Quail, Black, White, and Hush
Sizes S/M to 2XL/3XL, Available in Sky, Quail, Black, White, and Hush

In contrast to other shapewear brands, Yummie Tummie creates graduated control designs that are firmer in the midsection than other areas to avoid the “sausage casing” sensation, and with Stephanie, they have perfected the technique.  Sporting a reversible neckline which can be worn as a v or scoop neck, the Stephanie provides smoothing and light hold in the stomach while the specialized fabric regulates body temperature to prevent you from getting too hot or too cold.

Natori Bliss Girl Panties – $18 each, 3 for $45

BLISS COTTON 156058 PORCBLUE BLISS SMOOTH 755057 DARK PLUM PINK LEMONADE

Sizes Small to Large

I won’t rehash my ardent love affair with these panties again, but if you know nothing about them, read this post immediately and prepare to buy.

Affinitas Nicole Front-Closure Set -$56

32-38 B-DD
32-38 B-DD

Smooth and rounded from the front, the Nicole boasts a gorgeous lace racerback design, and the Fuchsia Rose colorway is vibrant and flattering.

b.tempt’d Full Bloom Set – $53

Full_Bloom
Available in White and Black

Tastefully sheer while still offering smoothness under knits, the Full Bloom has a keyhole cutout at the center gore, fully-adjustable straps, and a stretch lace cup which contours well across breast shapes.

The Basics – $32 to $69

aka "The Best-Seller for the Shop"
aka “The Best-Seller for the Shop”

Like the Panache Sports bra, the classic “Basic Bra” is not the most glamorous or sexy bra to unwrap, but hey, a girl needs her basics sometimes too!  Happy Holidays!!

Erica

P.S.  All Parfait and Affinitas items are 20% from now until December 31st at the shop.

The more Parfait I try, the more impressed I am. How often do designs come out early? That ice blue says snow queen to me.

I agree! Parfait has definitely shown they are becoming an alternative to brands like Freya and Cleo with their designs. It’s a shame they do not market their unpadded bras more because many of them fit very well, but all I see them promoting are the molded cups and padded ones. To answer your question in a very unhelpful way: It depends. This is true of all lingerie companies, not just Parfait. I’ve had companies ship me stuff anywhere from 2 months early to *3* months late. To Parfait’s credit, they are pretty consistent though which helps me plan my budget. In conclusion: Release dates are illusions; bra releases doubly so.

While I’m not looking for a last minute gift, that is the best picture of the Anna Pardal Cappucino (either the unpadded or molded variety) that I’ve seen. As I sit here in a sagging, splaying, poking bra that does not fit (because of problems with design grading, not because it’s the wrong size), I could very well see myself wanting to purchase both for everyday wear!

Hi Tori! This is the ultra new version of Stiff Cappuccino as the original lace was sold out, so they found a replacement. I wanted to show people what it looked like, so I snapped a picture for the post. The bra truly is gorgeous, and the copper ribbon at the top of the cup is such a unique touch. They are no longer doing the unpadded version because the new lace is not supportive enough, but it would definitely be worth considering the padded option for a basic beige bra (although let’s be fair: This is anything but basic!).

How charming is that Parfait Louisa set?! When it comes to flower-print lingerie, I’m usually in the blue-lavender-pink camp, but this color scheme is different and refreshing.

I’m a projected 34E/F who likes narrow wires. (My underbust is 32 inches, but a 34 is better for me because I don’t have a lot of padding on my ribcage.) How well do you think Louisa would work for me?

Hi Sarah! I think it’s absolutely gorgeous too. What styles bras are your favorite right now? I would say that Louisa is narrow-friendly, but it’s more average in terms of width. I’d almost say it’s on par with Panache’s Super bra line or Freya for the wire width, but certainly not as narrow as Cleo or Comexim.

I like Cleo Lucy, Fantasie Yvonne, Avocado Caprice (in their H cut, which is a lot like Lucy), and Ewa Michalak SM Burek (from their line for folks with soft breasts who prefer unpadded bras).

Hmmm, if you like Lucy, Louisa may end up working for you. I think the cup is running a touch generous though, so you may want to try an E cup first! 🙂
