Spring 2015: Elomi Lingerie

Hello Everyone,

It’s no secret that Elomi is the best-selling brand for the entire store, and each new season, the brand rises to the challenge of offering customers a fantastic fit, innovative prints, and seasonally appropriate colors all bundled in fresh new designs.  For fall, the brand pushed the envelope, albeit with mixed feedback, by releasing prints like Lexi and Kenza in the collection, and for spring, they continue to break free of their comfort zone and explore other options.

While the bulk of our sales is concentrated in neutral colors, Elomi fans tend to be more adventurous with prints, silhouettes, and color, and every spring, we pick one of the brand’s fashion offerings for the shop.  My empirical buying process usually boils down to whichever style grabbed my attention the most while still remaining true to what our customers love.  For Spring 2015, I am truly torn on which new style needs a place on our racks.  Naoko is my absolute personal favorite; it’s quirky, graphic, and tres chic with the bold black and white umbrella-inspired print.  Elomi perfectly balanced an edgy print with a sense of accessibility that resonates with many of our customers.  Imagine if the print received the Freya treatment with neon brights or contrasting colors.  Perhaps the design would be ridiculously cool, but I doubt it would have a widespread appeal.

As cute as Naoko is, the Elomi plunges have proven the most popular, specifically any frame which utilizes a stretch lace upper cup.  Both Edie and Lexi sport this design feature, and I love both for different reasons.  Edie feels more traditional with its soft, muted floral print in garden-fresh colors while Lexi ups the ante with an owl-feather print in contrasting electric blue and purple.  A dark horse contender also in the plunge family is the Bijou—a bra rapidly climbing our best-sellers list.  Unlike Edie and Lexi, Bijou has the added advantage of being seamless under knits.  I haven’t made any decisions yet, but I am truly excited by the many gorgeous options for the season.  Even their fuller-coverage designs like Tessa and Emily have eye-catching details and a certain “Wow” factor.

In all fairness, Elomi does disappoint in a few ways this season.  First, I’m not a huge fan of the Bijou Soiree in the red color.  When I saw the bra in person, I was distinctly underwhelmed.  The red does not contrast as well with the beige base as the original black does, and the combination lacks the boudoir sophistication too.  I would rather they keep the black as a basic than cheapen the design with new colorways.  Maybe if the contrast between the backdrop and the lace was more pronounced, a la the Ciao Bella balcony bra, I would love it more.  Also, why do manufacturers never utilize a dark base color with a lighter lace overlay?  Why not offer a black, chocolate brown, eggplant, crimson, etc. variation instead of beige?  Finally, my affinity for green had me salivating over the Betty in Pistachio which Elomi subsequently cancelled.  This is the first time they haven’t done a new colorway for Betty in a while, and I’m a little bummed the unique green never made it to production.

Lastly, I have some exciting news for Jocelyn/Lexi/etc. fans.  Get ready for basics for Fall 2015!

The Bijou in Surf is pretty gorgeous in person, and I have to say Lexi is too. On a totally different note, I got a Curvy Kate Carmen for myself, and I think I may be in love. So, there’s always other brands for Spring. 🙂

I loooooooooove it! Mind you, I haven’t worn it all day yet because I have to wear all my bras with extenders right now to keep them extremely loose because of my recent health woes, but initial impressions are awesome. 🙂

I like the Naoko print probably the best but the non-stretch lace Tiffany had way more fit issues than the stretch lace Jocelyn and since the new Lexie doesn’t read like animal print and is in some of my favorite colors that would probably edge out the Naoko for me.

Ashley, you’re right that the non-stretch plunges are not as forgiving, but if they work for your shape, they’re amazing. Tiffany did well here for a lot of people, especially because not everyone likes the stretch lace, and I’m glad to see they are keeping a style available next year. Not to mention, the non-lace versions are up to JJ cup now. This is so exciting because a lot of women in that range need the plunging gore in Elomi because they have too much breast tissue near the center to allow the other styles, like Caitlyn or Yolanda, to tack. More than likely, we’ll do Lexi in the store. May deliveries work well for us financially anyway, but I still love Naoko. We never carried an Elomi longline in the shop . . . .

Hello Orla! So excited about a new plunge option in a JJ cup! On another note, is Betty getting discontinued?

As far as I know, Betty is still a continuity style, and I’m hoping the green was only cancelled because of a production issue not because it’s a harbinger of doom for the entire style!

Ooooooo! I like Orla, Edie, Tessa, and Lexi. Love the patterns on Orla and Lexi in particular. It looks like most of their bras are full-cups. Do you think any of these options would be more suited to shallow on top breasts on a girlie with a short torso? =]

    Thanks for sharing, Erica!

Hi Aimee! The Orla, Lexi, and Edie are great styles with low center gores, but since you usually wear a 34 band, I think Elomi is going to be out for you. 🙁 It’s a shame that Fantasie or Freya doesn’t offer something similar because I think the design would translate well to some of the 28-34 band sizes too. Have you tried any of the Freya Plunge Balcony bras before?

I am really confused about the Tessa. Was so looking forward to this one since I love net fabric and the Maggie is my favorite Elomi ever. However, the gore height on the Maggie and frame is like the Eva/Abi while Renee is much more full coverage with a much higher gore. Any thoughts?

Tessa is more inline with Renee, in my opinion. It’s on a banded frame and has a coverage level comparable to Rita, so if that style doesn’t work for you, it’s better to pass on this one. With that in mind, I have to say Tessa is gorgeous in person and has a sexy sheer quality to it which is lovely!

    Not Cool Elomi

Unbelievable! It appears Elomi has blocked me from liking or commenting on their Facebook page and removed my comments. What is my crime? I asked a very simple question regarding the differences between Eva and Yolanda and when I didn’t receive a reply in over a week I dared to ask if anyone was actually answering questions on their page. Also, I commented on someone else’s inquiry and told them that questions often remained unanswered. I wear almost exclusively Elomi bras and did not bad mouth their products in any way. Am I wrong to be furious?

I feel like the person handling Elomi’s social media accounts really dropped the ball here and should issue an apology. Communicating with customers is one of the best reasons to use social media, and I love how you can open a dialogue and gain valuable feedback. As you said, “Not cool Elomi.” 🙁 However, to answer your question, Eva and Yolanda are the same bra. Earlier this year, retailers were sent out a letter stating that we were no longer to refer to the bra as “Eva” and instead use “Yolanda.” I am not sure why they made this change, but the bras are supposed to be the same. Maybe they didn’t want to get into the reasons why they switched the name? Regardless, they should have answered your question.

I finally received an apology from them after messaging them under my real name. They claim I was “caught in their filters.” My comments were put back. In fairness I wanted to update. Thanks as always Erica. Hope you are feeling better.

Hi Angela! Persia is actually based on the Abi/Yolanda frame, which they often use in their “bandless” fashion styles. I recommend trying those to see if they work as well as Persia!

Hi Michelle! Betty is actually the basis for the other Elomi plunge bra frames, but the fabrics have been changed. I recommend looking at Lexi, Edie, and Orla from the spring collections, and for Fall, there will be Carmen and Juliet for fall. Edie, Lexi, and Carmen are really popular here because the top is a stretch lace which accommodates size and shape changes well. Hope this helps!
