Fashion for Busty Women

Bust-Friendly Clothing at A Sophisticated Pair

TweetHello Ladies, In my previous blog, I mentioned some exciting fashion news for the store.  Long-time readers will know that I fell in love with Polish clothing company BiuBiu after I was able to finally—after years of fruitless searching—find a button-front to fit my body .  Later, I fell in love with two of their dresses.  In fact,  a quick search of the web yields a cornucopia of positive reviews for BiuBiu designs with Georgina of Fuller Figure Fuller Bust reviewing some of their latest knit tops. Kinga of BiuBiu and I have been discussing the potential to bring her beloved brand to Sophisticated Pair, and she’s given me some details on which styles would be available for us to import.  What I would like to do is gauge interest about the brand itself as well as what styles you love.  Our initial order will most likely focus on button-fronts because I feel those style staples are the areas where busty ladies struggle the most; however, I am happy to order from the styles listed below too.  Considering this will be a relationship with an International vendor, I’m expecting a few hiccups along the way, but overall, I’m excited about the prospect of bringing this curve-friendly brand into the store. For reference, here are the BiuBiu Size Charts which are pretty true-to-size.  The first size chart is for their fitted clothing while the second is for the knit or stretchier clothing. And here are the styles available.

Belk Fall Fashion Preview: Part II

Belk Fall Fashion Preview: Part II

TweetHello Ladies, Following yesterday’s discussion of the vibrant colors trend, I want to move onto an analogous trend which Belk calls “Mod Modern:” [This] Style Statement gives clothes a top-to-toe modern retro spin, embracing 1960’s shape shifts with sleek lines and sharp tailoring. Count on color blocking and banding, A-line shapes, sloping shoulders, shifts and slim pants—details that can quickly show off your more quirky side. While structured knits, ponte, melton wools, leather and New Age synthetics are just a few of the fabrics that give garments an innovative twist. Try on sophisticated cuts and interesting materials. What a modern combination. A runway wonder, the pattern play in this trend is graphic, often computer generated. Checks, bold plaids, dots, snake, Mondrian-like blocks and bars encourage the thinking woman to do a little more risk taking.  At your service are the sleek and simple accessories that capture the look of the season. What’s not to like? There are so many choices starting with items in intense, often daring color-combos that really work for winter. Then take a look at metal collars in a wide range of geometric shapes, linear earrings, dramatic cuffs in a medley of materials and finishes, envelope clutches, small chain bags, architecturally finessed boots and platform pumps. Sharp shapes say it all. As a huge fan of the original mod movement back in the late 50s/early 60’s, I have to say I’m partial to the unique geometric influence in the patterns and silhouettes.  My inner geek has always thought mod fashion was like geometry materialized with the conical dresses, square minis, rectangular shifts, and of course, the minimalistic patterns reminiscent of mathematical models.  For Belk’s take on the trend, their clever moniker says it all:  Mod Modern.  This is the mod movement of old modernized and reinvented for

Belk Fashion Buzz: Vivid

Belk Fashion Buzz: Vivid

TweetHello Ladies, A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend the Belk Fall Fashion Preview where they discussed the four major looks they would be showcasing this autumn, and I wanted to share the experience with you over the course of a new series.  With every designer focusing on their own unique vision of fashion, retailers have the tough job of pulling together these ideas into a palette of trends, colors, and silhouettes their customers will love.  For Belk, this meant focusing on how “polished” and pulled together each inspirational outfit was—no detail from accessories to hair and makeup was left unconsidered—and it is this meticulousness that Belk hopes to achieve will all of their fall merchandise. When I first received the invite to visit the preview, I was intrigued but cautious as my experience with Belk has been disappointing.  In many cases, I felt my local stores were not focusing on any edgy or fashion-forward styles in lieu of stocking more basic and conservative pieces, which is a strategy not entirely in line with how I purchase items for my wardrobe.  However, immediately upon entering the conference room, my gaze focused on the fun, trendy, and chic outfits which showcased one of the four general trends of the season. I want this trench: Since we’re more of a lingerie blog, I’ll most likely break up these posts about the event with more traditional bra reviews and advice, but the series should be a fun excursion from the norm as I know many of our readers enjoy fashion too.  Not to mention, we are located in North Carolina, and Belk aims to design clothes for the stylish Southern woman’s aesthetic. To kick off the series, I want to tackle the prevalence of color mixing and clashing, labelled “Vivid” by
